The Municipality of Ronda calls for the cooperation of citizens against the use of poisoned baits
After the recent events of possible illegal poisoning, the Municipality has offered a press conference explaining the risks of poisoned baits and the importance of citizen cooperation in the fight against this illegal practice. The town of Ronda is a member of the European Network of Municipalities against Poison and actively collaborates with the LIFE project “Innovation Against Poison”. En español

The Municipal delegate of Parks and Gardens and the Environment, Rafael Flores, has appealed to citizens to cooperate in combating poisoned baits, "after the concern that has emerged in recent weeks about this illegal action”.

According to the “Green Patrol”, only one poisoning event has been detected within the area of Arenal 2000: a dog found dead due to ingestion of poisoned baits. In spite of this, Flores stated that "there are certain comments that there could have been other possible cases, so the Municipality is determined to combat this practice carried out by cruel, heartless people”.

The councilor reminded that this type of practice, which constitutes an offence, not only affects animals but it also puts at risk human health, especially children’s, as poisoned baits are often placed in public parks.

For this reason, collaboration of citizens is especially necessary in case of detection of poisoned baits or affected animals. Citizens are encouraged to contact the Local Police, if the baits have been found within the urban area, or SEPRONA and Environmental Agents of the Consejería de Medio Ambiente, if they are found in rural environments.

Flores recalled that Ronda is a member of the European Network of Municipalities against Poison.
