School talks in Primary Schools in the Municipality of Amari, Rethymno. University of Crete – Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC), in the framework of Action D.3 of the project LIFE “Innovation Against Poison” continues its actions on the awareness of the school and educational community and more specifically in the Municipalities of pilot area GR-2 (Mountains of Crete: Asterousia, Dikti and Idi). ελληνικά
The starting-up for this school year was on Tuesday, the 16 of October 2012, with the visit of NHMC’s collaborators and the presentation of the project in Primary Schools of Apostoloi, Fourfouras and Platanos of the Municipality of Amari, Rethymno.
The pupils and teachers were informed both for the work of the Natural History Museum of Crete and the issue of illegal use of poisoned baits, as well as its effects on wildlife and public health. Also, pupils and teachers were informed about the implementation of the project LIFE+ on the “Innovative Actions against Illegal Poisoning in EU Mediterranean Pilot Areas” and the most important actions of it, such as the European Canine Team, the networks of Municipalities, Stockbreeders and Hunters, the marking and radio-tracking of the bioindicators species, etc.

In addition, the awareness material for the general public, such us posters and leaflets, were distributed to pupils and teachers. The implementation of this action will be continued during the school year 2012-2013 with visits and presentations to more than 30 Primary Schools of the pilot area GR-2, i.e. Municipalities of Anogeia, Mylopotamos, Faistos, Gortyna, Archanes-Asterousia, Minoa Pediados, Viannos, Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra and Lassithi Plateau.
