Life IAP project presentations to Elementary and High Schools of the pilot area of Crete (GR-2)
The University of Crete – Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC), in the framework of the project LIFE+ “Innovations against Poison”, continues the divulgation activities to the elementary and high schools of Crete, especially to the schools of the Municipalities that are members of ENMAIP network of the pilot area GR-2. ελληνικά

The beginning for this year’s school season (September 2012 to June 2013) started on Tuesday, 16th of October 2012, with the visit of NHMC’s collaborators in the elementary schools of the Municipality of Amari (schools of Fourfouras, Platanos and Apostoloi). The next presentations took place in elementary schools of Agia Varvara and Agios Thomas (Municipality of Gortyna) on 31.10.2012, in Sissi and 2nd Elementary School of Neapoli (Municipality of Agios Nikolaos) on 12.11.2012, in Agios Georgios and Tzermiado (Municipality of Oropedio Lassithiou) on 14.11.2012, and in the Elementary School of Skalani (Municipality of Heraklion) on 22.11.2012.

The rest visits to schools of pilot area GR-2 is as follows: High Schools of Thrapsano and Kastelli (Municipality of Minoa Pediados) on 28.11.2012, Elementary and High School of Ano Viannos (Municipality of Viannos) on 7.12.2012, High Schools of Gergeri (Municipality of Gergeri) and Zaros (Municipality of Festos) on 20.12.2012.

In total, during the period June to December 2012, 1,125 pupils and 85 teachers have attended a total of 21 school-talks in the municipalities of pilot area GR-2.

Through these presentations, the pupils and their teachers become familiar with the work of the Natural History Museum of Crete, as well as the problem of poisoned baits and their effects to the biodiversity of Crete and of course the objectives and the most important tools of LIFE IAP project.

During these lectures, pupils had also the chance to ask several questions about poisons and discuss about their experiences concerning cases of poisoned baits in their area.
